I just finished "We Inherit the Fire" by Kagiso Lesego Molope (WOW. It tells the story of intergenerational trauma after apartheid in South Africa. Highly recommend). I have Foursome on my bedside table to read next! And I just picked up Ann Patchett's latest, Whistler. I've got some good reads to dive into!
Wonderfully positive and inspiring! I'm reading Whidbey at the moment, which is beautifully written and very dark. I can only read it on one day a week. Also reading Swans, a book coming next year from Claire Luchette. It's marvelous!
What a thoughtful and encouraging perspective on book clubs and the literary community at large. Love the poem, and the smoothie recipe (no home is complete without a Vitamix). Looking forward to seeing you at KWC!
Love this description of your tour! And I'm just loving The Foursome, which I've finally had time to start. I'm so sad I won't get to see you at the Mt Desert HS, I'll be in NYC that week, but hope we can catch up elsewhere, though I see your tour continues. I'm recommending The Foursome to lots of people! May its success continue! xxSusanna
I totally concur with your feelings about book tour times, Christina. For me, a book tour isn't really about selling books. It's about meeting readers and booksellers. Readers, most of all. Every time I go out into the world with a new book--as I'll be doing next week, with my new novel--I am inspired to keep working.
The new novel, In Wonderland, is set in Maine, by the way. As of now, all my New England events are taking place in NH, but I'd dearly love to do one with you, if time allows. I'm ALWAYS happy to find a reason to head up the coast from my little NH lake house, and of course it woudl be great to see you. Let me know ...and naturally I'd be happy to send a copy of In Wonderland too.

What a wonderful and true reflection on the wild ride that is a book tour. Glad you have some time back in Maine!
I just received my copy the other day in advance of the SWP retreat in October. How exciting all around!
